The program staff has been working with Alternative Certification Interns since 1993! We are not new at helping teachers obtain their certification. The program is designed and implemented by former university professors. These individuals have also served as educational consultants, educational program coordinators, grant writers, and private and public school teachers, counselors, principals, and main office administrators, including superintendents. Unlike other programs, who have studied our methods, we are not business people, attorneys, etc. We are Texas certified educators!
A pre-service training academy is required of each teacher-candidate. No need to quit your current job! The training is held on evenings and Saturdays. Teacher candidates must also complete a Field Component during this time. Additionally, the teacher-candidate will participate in an in-service support program during their internship while they are the teacher of record. The intent of the Pre-Service Training Academy and Field Component is to provide the teacher-candidate an opportunity to assess his or her understanding, suitability and commitment to teaching students. The teacher-candidate will have the opportunity to observe routine classroom procedures including instruction and classroom management.
Pre-service topics will include but are not limited to: Human Development Theory; Age Level Characteristics and Learning Styles; Technology in the Classroom; Educational Measurement and Student Assessment; Effective Communication; Bilingual/ESL Methodology; Effective Teaching Strategies and Instructional Practices; Effective Classroom Management I and II; The Teacher, the Law, and the Code of Ethics; Multiculturalism and the Diverse Learner, Multiple Intelligences and GT students; Special Education and Inclusion; Lesson Planning; TEKS, TAKS and Teacher Appraisal; Special Populations and At-Risk students; Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum; Addressing Students’ Needs and Motivating Students; and Enhancing the Classroom Climate. |
